Most people think of washing their car on a warm sunny day. However, cars should not be washed in strong sun; shade washing is a better bet so the soap will not dry up leaving you with a spotted surface. Also, when you splash cold water on a hot surface small microscopic cracks form on the painted surface.

After you have washed your car and dried it then you must wax it to give it a protective finish. Wax protects your car’s paint against corrosion. Waxing also prevents the oxidation of the paint keeping it from getting dull. Do not wax in the direct sun, keep car in the shade.

In the sun your car's paint breaths and the pores in the paint open up allowing for dirt and contaminates to get inside and cause problems. The UV rays from the sun also dull the paint, this isn't as much a problem when proper waxes are used that contain UVA and UVB protectants in them. To keep your car lookig good, keep it in the shade to wash, wax and dy. Use wax with protectants in them to help shield the UV rays.
Please take a moment to check out the article about the ODR Spring Tour 2011. Jim and Sally wrote the article and wanted it shared with everyone. Some of the members of the Bull Run Club went on the tour. The pictures are in the gallery and can be found by following this link.
